How to Install Geotextile Fabric

Embark on a seamless installation journey with our straightforward guidance and handy tips. In this example,

Step 1 - Prepare the Road Surface

Begin by excavating the roadway to your desired elevation, then diligently compact the subgrade to expel air and ensure the soil is meticulously tightened, creating the perfect foundation.

Step 2 - Unroll the Reinforcement Geotextile Fabric

Carefully unroll the geotextile fabric over the compacted subgrade, ensuring it remains smooth and free of creases. Follow the engineer's guidance for fabric overlap. We offer pre-sewn fabric services for stitch seams; contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory-seamed rolls available in wider widths.

Step 3 - Sewing the Geotextile Fabric

For this project, on-site stitching of the fabric is required. Seam the fabric using a dual-thread lock stitch to maintain integrity. Our equipment is available for purchase or rental for on-site stitching. Choose from a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam at the engineer's discretion. We recommend double-stitching each seam for maximum durability during installation.

Step 4 - Apply Aggregate

Spread the aggregate to the specified thickness, preventing any equipment from driving directly on the engineered fill. Ensure full compaction of the fill before proceeding to the final stage.

Step 5 - Lay Asphalt

With the subbase in place, you're ready to apply the pavement layer(s), tailored to fit the project type.
