Step 1 - Prepare the Road Surface

Begin by excavating the roadway to the desired elevation. Thoroughly compact the subgrade, ensuring all air pockets are eliminated and that the soil is compacted to optimal density.

Step 2 - Unroll the Reinforcement Geotextile Fabric

Unroll the geotextile fabric onto the compacted subgrade, ensuring a smooth, wrinkle-free application. Overlap the fabric as specified by engineering guidelines. If required, Cherokee offers pre-sewn fabric to facilitate seamless installation. Reach out to your Cherokee representative for information on factory-seamed rolls in wider widths.

Step 3 - Sewing the Geotextile Fabric

On-site stitching is necessitated for this project. Employ a dual thread lock stitch to securely seam the fabric, preventing unthreading. We offer equipment for purchase or rental to assist with this task. Depending on engineering preferences, choose from a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. In this scenario, a j-seam is employed. We recommend applying two stitches per seam to ensure installation integrity and prevent seam failure.

Step 4 - Apply Aggregate

Carefully distribute the aggregate to the prescribed thickness, taking care to avoid direct equipment contact with the engineered fill. Confirm that the fill has achieved full compaction before proceeding to the final stage.

Step 5 - Lay Asphalt

With the subbase meticulously laid, you are primed for the application of the pavement layer(s), tailored to meet the specific demands of your project. Prepare for a durable and resilient finish.
