1. Definition of Geogrid: Geogrids are formed from polymers such as polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride through thermoplastic or molding processes. These grids can be two-dimensional or have a three-dimensional structure. When utilized in civil engineering, they are termed geogrids, offering robust support solutions for structural applications.
2. Plastic Geogrid: This type consists of a polymer mesh, available in two variations based on stretching direction: unidirectional and bidirectional. The process begins with punching an extruded polymer sheet, usually made of polypropylene or high-density polyethylene. Through heating, the sheet undergoes directional stretching. Unidirectional stretching occurs along the sheet's length, whereas bidirectional involves further stretching perpendicular to the initial direction, enhancing the grid's versatility.
3. Bidirectional Geogrid: Produced from polymers via extrusion, plate, and punching processes, bidirectional geogrids are then subjected to longitudinal and transverse stretching.
