Step 1 - Prep the Road Surface

Begin by excavating the roadway to the precise elevation required. Thoroughly compact the subgrade, ensuring all air pockets are eliminated for a tightly secured foundation.

Step 2 - Unroll the Reinforcement Geotextile Fabric

Carefully unroll the geotextile fabric onto the compacted subgrade, ensuring a smooth finish free from wrinkles and folds. Overlap the fabric as specified by your engineer. Cherokee offers pre-sewn fabric options for seamless installation — contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory-seamed rolls in wider widths.

Step 3 - Sewing the Geotextile Fabric

For field-sewn applications, ensure the fabric is stitched on-site using a dual thread lock stitch to prevent unraveling. We offer equipment for purchase or rental to facilitate on-site stitching. Depending on engineering specifications, consider using a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. For this example, a j-seam is recommended, with dual stitches on each seam to guarantee installation success.

Step 4 - Apply Aggregate

Distribute the specified thickness of aggregate, taking care to prevent equipment from driving directly onto the engineered fill. Ensure full compaction of the fill before proceeding to the final stage.

Step 5 - Lay Asphalt

With the subbase in place, you're ready to proceed with the pavement layer or layers, tailored to meet the distinct requirements of your project.
