Step 1 - Prep the road surface

Begin by excavating the roadway to achieve your desired elevation. Thoroughly compact the subgrade, ensuring all air is removed and the soil is firmly tightened to optimal conditions.

Step 2 - Unroll the reinforcement geotextile fabric

Carefully roll the geotextile fabric over the compacted subgrade, ensuring it is smooth and devoid of wrinkles or folds. Follow engineer directives for fabric overlap. Cherokee offers pre-sewn fabrics if stitch seams are necessary. Contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory-seamed rolls available in wider widths.

Step 3 - Sewing the geotextile fabric

For this task, site-specific stitching of the fabric is required. Utilize a dual thread lock stitch for seaming to ensure durability and prevent unthreading. We offer equipment for purchase or rental to facilitate on-site stitching. Depending on the engineer's guidance, choose from a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. In this case, we recommend a j-seam, with two stitches on each seam to ensure robust installation integrity.

Step 4 - Apply Aggregate

Spread the aggregate to the specified thickness, making sure that no equipment drives directly on the engineered fill. Confirm that the fill has achieved full compaction before proceeding to the final step.

Step 5 - Lay Asphalt

With your subbase laid, proceed to apply the pavement layer, adapting the number of layers as necessary based on the specific project requirements.
