POLYPROPYLENE SHORT FIBER NEEDLE PUNCHED GEOTEXTILE
Crafted using ultra-high-strength polypropylene staple fiber or ES fiber as the primary raw material, this product is manufactured through advanced non-woven technology. It offers an array of functionalities including isolation, reinforcement, protection, filtration, drainage, and buffering.
Product specifications: PP100~PP1200, available in widths from 2 meters to 6 meters, with customizable lengths as per user requirements.
Our product boasts physical and mechanical properties that are 2 to 3 times superior to conventional alternatives. The low density at equivalent gram weights, coupled with excellent acid and alkali resistance, outstanding hot-melt adhesion, and robust wear resistance, make it ideal for CRTS/slab ballastless track sliding layer systems. This significantly reduces interactions between the track system and bridge surface.

- The polypropylene needle-punched non-woven geotextile is predominantly used as a sliding layer between CRTS slab ballastless tracks and beam surfaces of passenger-dedicated railways. It serves as an isolation layer between CRTS slab ballastless tracks and friction surfaces. Additionally, it is extensively applicable in hydropower, highways, railways, ports, airports, sports venues, tunnels, beaches, reclamation efforts, and environmental protection projects, performing roles such as isolation, filtration, drainage, reinforcement, and protection. Geotextile Installation Instructions
How to install geotextile fabric
Let us guide you through the straightforward installation process, offering insightful tips along the way. In our example,
Step 1 - Prep the road surface
Begin by excavating the roadway to the necessary elevation. Next, thoroughly compact your subgrade, ensuring all air is expelled and the soil is securely tightened.
Step 2 - Unroll the reinforcement geotextile fabric
Unroll the geotextile fabric over the compacted subgrade, ensuring it is smooth without wrinkles or folds. Overlap the fabric as specified by the engineer. Cherokee offers pre-sewn fabric if a stitch seam is required. Contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory-seamed rolls in wider widths.
Step 3 - Sewing the geotextile fabric
This project necessitates on-site stitching of the fabric. It must be seamed using a dual thread lock stitch to avert unthreading. Equipment for stitching is available for purchase or rental. At the engineer's discretion, you may select a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. In this scenario, we utilize a j-seam and recommend two stitches per seam to prevent failure during installation.
Step 4 - Apply Aggregate
Spread your aggregate to the prescribed thickness, ensuring no equipment traverses directly on the engineered fill. Confirm that the fill achieves full compaction before moving to the final step.
Step 5 - Lay Asphalt
With your subbase in place, you are now prepared to proceed with the pavement layer(s), tailored to the project's requirements.

Functional Excellence of Our Geotextile
1. Separation
Geotextile's separation function is pivotal in road construction, preventing the intermixing of adjacent soils. By separating fine subgrade soil from base course aggregates, it preserves drainage and maintains the strength characteristics of the aggregates.
Key Application Areas for Geotextile Functions:
- Between subgrade and stone base in both unpaved and paved roads, as well as in airfields.
- Application in railroad subgrade separation for enhanced durability.
- Effective between landfills and stone base courses to maintain structural integrity.
- Application between geomembranes and sand drainage layers for optimal performance.
2. Filtration
Our geotextile maintains an equilibrium that allows for efficient liquid flow while minimizing soil loss, ensuring stability across the geotextile-to-soil system.
Porosity and permeability are key features of geotextiles, making them effective for filtration applications.
A prime example of filtration is the use of geotextile in pavement edge drains, ensuring effective water management.
3. Reinforcement
Integrating geotextile enhances soil tensile strength, akin to steel reinforcement in concrete, achieved through:
- Lateral restraint provided by friction between geotextile and soil/aggregate.
- Facilitating the development of alternate high shear strength surfaces for potential bearing failures.
- Supporting wheel loads through a membrane type of support mechanism.
4. Sealing
A non-woven geotextile layer is placed between existing and new asphalt, forming a waterproof membrane that curtails vertical water infiltration into the pavement.
Considerations for Weight and Environmental Impact:
Geotextile Advantages: Lightweight nature of geotextiles reduces structural load and minimizes environmental impact.
Reinforced Concrete Challenges: Heavier concrete structures necessitate a more robust foundation and have a greater environmental footprint during production.
Balancing Maintenance Needs and Durability:
Geotextile: Our geotextiles are meticulously designed to demand minimal upkeep over the years, ensuring resilience to cracking and deterioration, thereby offering consistent performance and longevity.
Reinforced Concrete: Reinforced concrete structures often necessitate routine maintenance due to the prevalence of issues like cracks, corrosion, and other typical structural challenges.
Installation time:
Geotextile: Our geotextiles enable rapid installation, significantly shortening your project timelines and boosting efficiency.
Reinforced Concrete: The necessity for concrete curing can extend project timelines, potentially affecting deadlines and project schedules.
