1. Definition of Geogrid: A geogrid is a sophisticated grid structure made from polymers like polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride, crafted through thermoplastic molding. With either a two-dimensional or a three-dimensional grid design, it is adeptly utilized in civil engineering applications.
2. Plastic Geogrid: This robust polymer mesh comes in square or rectangular configurations and is classified by its stretching direction into unidirectional and bidirectional varieties. It begins as an extruded polymer plate (often polypropylene or high-density polyethylene) that is punched and then directionally stretched under heat. The unidirectional geogrid is stretched lengthwise, while the bidirectional geogrid undergoes an additional stretch perpendicular to the first, enhancing its strength.
3. Two-way Geogrid/Bidirectional Geogrid: Produced from high-quality polymers through cutting-edge extrusion, punching, and stretching processes, the bidirectional geogrid boasts substantial tensile strength both longitudinally and transversely.
